Darwin is a good base for visiting Kakadu national park
Travellers in Asia looking for cheap flights to Australia will have a new option from next month.
Tiger Airways, Singapore's low fare airline, will begin flying four times a week to Darwin, in Australia's Northern Territory.
A one-way fare on the Singapore-Darwin route starts from S$49.98 (£16.85).
"There is strong demand for affordable flights to Australia from Asia. Savvy travelers can now fly to Darwin from Singapore at great value-for-money fares!" said Tiger Airways chief executive Tony Davis.
"At the same time, Australian travellers from Darwin and the Northern Territory will have the same affordable option to fly to Singapore and other destinations served by Tiger Airways."
Tiger Airways hopes the route will be the catalyst for increased tourism between Singapore and the Northern Territory of Australia.
Darwin is the capital of the Northern Territory, also known as the "Top End". Attractions include Kakadu national park, while it is also a good starting point for exploring Australia's red centre, including Uluru (Ayers Rock).
Tickets for the flights, which begin on December 19th 2005, are on sale now at
