Banyan Tree Phuket: Asia's top resort
Banyan Tree Phuket, Thailand, is Asia's best resort, according to a new resort and hotel guide published today.

The luxury spa resort came out top in an online poll of over 64,000 travellers for the second edition of Asia's Best Hotels & Resorts.

Datai Langkawi, on the Malaysian island of Langkawi, was in second place; while Shangri-La's Mactan Island resort in the Philippines was in third.

Peninsula, Hong Kong, where prices start at US$333 (£180) per night, was voted the top hotel by the guidebook.

Oriental Bangkok, Thailand, and Ritz-Carlton Millenia in Singapore were second and third on the list.

Each entry in the 384-page guide is rated on eight criteria including ambience, value for money, staff attitude, family friendliness and dining options.

It contains profiles of 400 hotels and resorts, covering 22 Asian countries.
