The Sphinx, Cairo: one of Egypt's many attractions
Egypt heads the list of the world's top travel destinations according to adventure travel specialist iExplore.
The North African country has swapped places with Peru, which was ranked as the top destination at the end of 2004, in iExplore's half yearly update to its top ten world travel destinations.
China moved up two places from five to three, with the Galapagos Islands and India both moving up five places to four and five respectively.
Italy, Costa Rica and Canada, meanwhile, had to make way in the top ten for South Africa, New Zealand and Morocco.
iExplore's George Deeb said: "2005 has seen continued growth in faraway travel destinations, particularly in the Middle East which has Egypt displacing perennial best selling Peru as our number one seller and Morocco entering our top ten."
The list was compiled according to bookings with iExplore's by adventure and experiential travellers in the first five months of 2005
