Travellers should ensure they are covered by comprehensive travel insurance. It is recommended this includes rescue by air ambulance.

Precautions against mosquitoes should be taken because of the risk of dengue fever.

There is also a high rate of AIDS and HIV in the country, and suitable precautions should, as always, be taken.
