The de facto state of Taiwan lies just off the east coast of China, sandwiched between Japan and the Philippines. One of the technological centres of the world, it also has rich scenery, formidable mountain ranges, temples and the world's tallest tower, Taipei 101, which is one of the best ways of checking out Taiwan's capital city.
