Advice on budget, affordable and luxury accommodation in Munich
Budget accommodation
Friendly, clean and well-placed for south Munich's attractions such as the zoo and parks, the YH Munich-Thalkirchen on Miesingstrasse offers all you can eat breakfasts and free linen, a boon for the light traveller.
For more than 30 years The Tent has been Munich's cheapest and arguably coolest place to stay. It is surrounded by greenery and combines dormitories with campsites and outdoor activities. Ideally suited to backpackers who want to meet up and have fun together. Beware however – it is only open between May 26th and October 4th.
Affordable accommodation
Family-friendly, value for money and quirkily done-out, with themed bedrooms such as the Mozart Room, Hotel Uhland is worth trying. It is in a quiet residential area, yet ideal for events such as the raucous Oktoberfest, as it is only a few blocks down the road from the venue.
The Royal Hotel is positioned slap-bang in the middle of Munich, right opposite the central station. The rooms are bright and spacious and the hotel itself is very close to restaurants, bars and shops.
Luxury accommodation
If you are literally paying a flying visit to Munich, or if you want to be surrounded by jaw-dropping architecture, the Kempinski Airport Hotel is for you. While it is a fair distance out of the city, the hotel's awesome atrium that welcomes you, flooded with natural light, is a unique experience. The rooms are blessed with panoramic views and the food is excellent.
The Mandarin Oriental offers all the luxury one could want, but with a personal service that is more becoming of the best-served bed and breakfast. Staff happily go that extra mile to ensure the holidaymaker's stay is special, and the rooms are plush and ostentatious.
