Details of what's on in Leipzig throughout the year

Gewandhaus Mendelssohn Festival is a celebration of the work of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, a Leipzig local hero. In September every year, the Gewandhaus orchestra performs more than 30 concerts of his music, and the works of composers who he worked with, such as Schumann.

The Lachmesse Comedy Festival explodes the myth that Germans are lacking a national funny bone. Every October Denkmalsblick is flooded with national and international comedians, all hoping to make you roar with Leipzig laughter. One of the largest events of its kind in Europe, you can expect to have around 100 shows to choose from during the festival.

If you would rather have a red-face through imbibing strong German ale rather than laughing, however, May's Honky Tonk pub crawl is for you. Taking in many of the drinkeries around the Drallewatsch, the crawl includes music from more than 100 bands in pubs, restaurants and bars.
