Hanover is arguably Europe's capital for trade fairs and exhibitions, but it is unlikely that many holidaymakers would be interested in visiting such events

However, Hanover does have some great outdoor events, such as September's Herrenhäusen Festwochen, which features classical music and theatrical performances in the beautiful Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen.

Schutzenfest, or the Marksman's Festival, is a great day out for families. Taking place between June and July, the Schutzenplatz and Old Town turn into a fun fair, with beer stalls for the grown-ups, along with traditional ceremonies and parades.
