Details of what's on in Frankfurt throughout the year

Frankfurt's best known event is the Rheingau-Musik-Festival where classical concerts take place in castles and in other outdoors venues each May.

Another major festival in Frankfurt is the Museumsuferfest, a kind of international exhibition that takes place at the end of the summer where visitors can experience culture, shopping, food and music from all over the world. The festival runs for three days and traditionally ends with a fireworks display.

The biggest event in the publishing world is held every year in Frankfurt. The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world's largest, and lasts for five days in October, attracting more than 270,000 visitors. Some of the biggest deals in the industry are thrashed out at the fair, from overseas rights for Harry Potter to the latest bestseller from Dan Brown.

Christopher Street Day is a raucous street party and parade organised by Frankfurt's gay and lesbian community. The vibrant and colourful party, which takes place in June, starts in the Roemerberg and finishes in the Konstablerwache.

In July, Frankfurt celebrates its musical heritage at the Sound of Frankfurt Festival, featuring live bands and techno acts rocking the city's streets.
