Details of what's on in Cologne throughout the year
The
Karneval is Cologne's biggest festival, involving a sea of people, parade floats drifting down the canal in Rosenmontag, from which sweets and chocolate are thrown into the waiting arms of spectators and children. The massive event takes place on November 11th, kicking off at 11.11.
Rapidly establishing itself as one of the country's top music festivals, C/o Pop and Ringfest are well worth a visit.
C/o Pop runs for a week in August and features the leading lights from the world of electro-pop. Cologne's clubs and music venues are descended upon by around two million revellers. The week-long party is rounded off by
Ringfest, where the streets are turned into a two kilometre-long party. The Neumarkt, Rudolfplatz and Friesenplatz are also set up for concerts and gigs.
