Advice on what to do in Frankfurt, including culture, relaxation, nightlife, sport and food.
Cultural attractions in Frankfurt
Museum-buffs will be in heaven on Museumsufer, a strand of 11 museums sitting on either side of the river Main in Frankfurt.
Among these museums is the
Liebieghaus, famous for its range of sculptures, as well as the Deutsches Filmmuseum, considered by many to Germany's best film museum. Featuring a range of rare and valuable film archives, it also explains the fascinating process of filmmaking to visitors.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is Frankfurt's most famous, and perhaps finest, poet, and visitors to the city can look around the 18th century home, in which he lived with his parents. Retaining much of its baroque furnishings, it gives an insight into Goethe's formative years.
Tourists in Frankfurt can also look around the
Goethe Museum, which uses art to celebrate the age of Goethe, and visitors can look on at evocative paintings of Germany from that era.
Relaxation in Frankfurt
Relax in Bethmannpark, which features traditional Chinese gardens and an ornate pagoda, on the front of Friedberger Tor.
Complete with exotic trees, wide open spaces and even an open-air cinema in the summer, Gruneburgpark and Schonhof Pavillion are great for a chilled day out among lots of greenery.
On Tuesday nights, locals and visitors gather together at Deutschherrnufer, to take part in a unique look of the city. Thousands of people don their inline skates and stream through Frankfurt on a course which covers more than 30 km. The streets are closed to cars, and while the event is open to everyone, you are advised not to take part if you are only a beginner skater.
Nightlife in Frankfurt
Jazzkeller is the most significant jazz club in Frankfurt, and is housed in the suitably smokey underground basement on Kleine Bockenheimer. Come here for an evening of live, local jazz.
For an altogether less contemplative night out, check out Unity on Hanauer Landstrasse, which pulls in plenty of folk who are up for a night of shaking their thang to pumping dance music.
Destino is the place to be for pretty ladies, smart cocktails and an atmosphere that screams 'cool'. The music is cutting-edge and tasty tapas is served throughout the day.
Sport in Frankfurt
A game of football can be caught with
Eintracht Frankfurt at Waldstadion.
