While more moneyed than other cities like Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo arguably does not share the same carnival attitude, though this is being worked on by the introduction of large street parties.
There is plenty for the tourist in Sao Paulo to enjoy though, with numerous monuments to religion and the city's history.
One of the biggest attractions in addition to its humming nightlife is Sao Paulo's swarm of top football teams, including Corinthians and Sao Paulo, where collectively more than 100,000 fans flock to watch every game.
