In the scheme of German cities, Kaiserslautern may be one of the smaller ones, but it still has plenty going on.
Located in sunny south-west Germany in the Rhineland-Pfalz, Kaiserslautern is awash with symbols of the old world, such as the New Palatinate Theatre. While such buildings have had to be rebuilt because of war damage, they are still impressive pieces of medieval architecture. The theatre is home to many operatic endeavours as well, rock, jazz, cabaret and plays.
Additionally, Kaiserslautern is ideally placed to act as a base for those who want to do a little mountainous hiking and forest-walking, making the city a hit with backpackers.
Crowds in Kaiserslautern are often young, because of its throbbing student population. Also, if you like the sight of a man in uniform, you may be pleased to know that there is a large NATO military base placed nearby.
