Airports: Moscow

Moscow has two international airports - Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo – and it is probably worth considering which airport you are flying into before deciding where in the city to book your accommodation.

For information on Moscow Sheremetyevo airport, go to: www.sheremetyevo-airport.ru. For information on Moscow Domodedovo airport, go to: www.domodedovo.ru.

There are bus links and marshrutka shuttles from Sheremetyevo to the nearest metro stations - Rechnoy Vokzal (green line, north) or Planernaya (violet line, north-west). Buses operate from 05:40 to 24:00 local time and the journey takes around 30 minutes.

Sheremetyevo airport is also served by a train that runs every two hours from Savyolovsky railway station in Moscow (metro Savyolovskaya, grey line) to Lobnya station. The journey takes 25 minutes and costs 50R (£1). From Lobnya there is a free bus service to the airport (20 minutes).

Domodedovo is the newer airport and the Aeroexpress train travels non-stop from Paveletsky station in Moscow to the airport in 40 to 50 minutes.

There is also a commuter train, also departing from Paveletsky station, which takes around one hour and ten minutes.

A bus service to Domodedovo departs from Domodedovskaya metro station and takes 25 to 30 minutes.

Beware of being overcharged by taxi drivers at the airports. A taxi from Domodedovo should cost around R1,600 (£34). Booking a taxi in advance of arrival is recommended.

The journey time by taxi from Domodedovo will take between one and one-and-a-half hours if the notorious Moscow traffic is favourable.
