Airports: Bogota

Monday, 26 Mar 2007 15:30
All international flights to Bogota land at El Dorado International Airport, situated some 20 minutes drive from the downtown area. For more airport information see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Dorado_International_Airport

The most convenient and safest option to go to and from the Airport is by Yellow Taxi. These are inexpensive. A journey may cost in the region of US$7-10 and bear in mind there is an "airport" surcharge.

There is a complicated and challenging network of bus links from the airport but it is recommended you choose the taxi option as the buses will not take you to your door and have little space for luggage. Upon arrival, be sure to book an official taxi and the price will be standard and a receipt will be provided.

Plans are in place to extend the city's Transmilenio (red bendy bus) network out as far as the airport.

Airport taxes
The domestic airport tax is usually included in domestic flights.

For international flights: If you have been in the country for less than 60 days you have to pay US $31 in cash or COP75,000, no Travellers Cheques or credit cards are accepted. In order to pay, you have to go to the tax office at the airport, show your passport with the entry stamp and your plane ticket and you will be given the tax exemption form.

If you visited Colombia for more than 60 days or if you are Colombian or a foreign resident in the country, the airport tax is US $53 or COP129,000.
