Getting around San Francisco

Tuesday, 05 Sep 2006 16:04
While you can cover a few individual district of the city on foot pretty easily, if you want to see the city's sights then it is best to use a combination of San Francisco's excellent public transport.

The most appealing of these are the historic cable cars, though these also cost more than buses, the metro and the light railway, and have serve much less of the city.

San Francisco's buses seem to be everywhere, and a look at the bus route map shows virtually every street in central areas has a bus running along it. As well as buses there is also the trolley – tram-like buses which run off overhead power cables.

To cover more ground more quickly, the metro goes from central areas to the outskirts of the city.
