Getting around Moscow
The Moscow metro system is a frequent, comprehensive and reliable transportation service famous for its ornately designed stations - which are all colonnaded halls, chandeliers and socialist realist art.

The metro lines are identified by numbers and colours and run between 05:30 and 01:00 local time, with some variations from line to line.
Interestingly, the direction of travel can be identified by the announcer's gender - you will hear a male voice when travelling towards the centre of Moscow and a female voice when heading out of town.
On the circular Koltsevaya Line - which connects all the radial lines in a 20km ring - you will hear a female voice when travelling anti-clockwise and a male voice when going clockwise.
