Getting around Madrid

Most of the city is easily accessible on foot, if you're prepared to do some walking. It's also a great way to get a feel for the city's way of life, which shuts down at lunchtimes and comes back to life in the evenings and night times.
There is an extensive network of buses which are cheap, air conditioned and easy to use, provided you have a good sense of where you're headed. The metro is easier to navigate and costs the same amount, though you should watch out for station closures. Tourists can get a daily travel pass for €3.50, and single tickets cost €1.10.
