Getting around Brussels

Tuesday, 05 Sep 2006 12:22
Most of Brussels' biggest attractions, from the Grand Place to the major museums, can be reached on foot, so you may well find yourself doing without public transport.

However, if you are planning on getting out of the city centre then there are lots of different transport options.

Brussels has its own metro, as well as a trams and buses.

Tickets need to be bought in advance, and can be used across all three transport systems.

If you want to experience Brussels' scary traffic system (they operate a give way to all traffic from the right rule), as well as get across the city rapidly, then you can hop into a taxi at one of the ranks – taxis do not usually stop when hailed in the street.

For more information on public transport see www.stib.be(Dutch and French only)
