Antwerp
With a population of just under half a million inhabitants, Antwerp is the provincial capital of the Antwerp province in Flanders, north Belgium. It is small, yet cosmopolitan city – filled with magnificent architecture, fashionable boulevards, historic pubs, dizzying monuments and inspired artworks.
In the modern era the city describes itself as a fashion capital, with hip young things from all over Europe flocking to the
Kammenstraat to take in the latest trends. The other
shopping areas are set amid the many of the historic town houses and arcades, allowing guests to stroll through the historic streets in search of the most modern or bargains.
On the cultural sides, the city's artistic reputation can be traced at least to the 17th century, when the Antwerp School – which counted Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens and the two Teniers among its members – left its cultural legacy on Europe. The city is also the diamond capital of the world, with more than half of the world's cut diamonds passing through the city.
