Three great American beaches
Because of its sheer size, varying climates, and blend of cultures, the USA has always been a popular destination for any traveller. The huge amount of tourist attractions makes it the second most popular destination for British holidaymakers, just after Spain. While the latter is famous for beach
holidays of lounging in the sun, the USA arguably boasts a number of better beaches, with a few jostling for the mantle of best beach in the world. Here’s a guide to three of the best beaches in America – one in the east, one in the south, and one in the west for good measure.
South Beach, Miami, Florida
Florida has more than its share of incredible beaches on its long coastline. With a sub tropical climate and the west coast lining the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico it’s no surprise really. You’re spoilt for choice with the popular spring break destinations of Daytona Beach and Panama City to the north, but there’s a slightly more exclusive scene in the south, on the white fine powder sands of South Beach, Miami. With beautiful people lounging in the subtropical sun, the scene changes swiftly at nightfall into one filled with clubs and bars. Make sure you can speedily change into your clubbing attire once night falls.
South Padre Island, Texas
One of the many destinations for an amazing spring break, South Padre Island, particularly Coca Cola Beach, has one of the finest reputations out of the selection. Located on the south eastern tip of Texas, South Padre Island is a popular destination for American tourists all year round, with a vast amount of people taking holiday homes. However, come Easter time it’s awash with students seeking a break from their studies and exams. Coca Cola Beach is known to house most of the action, with daily crowds of 10,000 – 15,000 people flocking there to enjoy the bands and contests onstage.
Laguna Beach, Orange County, California
Having been the setting for one of the most popular American television shows in recent years, the O.C has one of the top beaches in the USA. The coastline in this affluent area near Los Angeles has some fantastic beaches that are as family friendly as they are beautiful. Bursting with the south California sunshine, there are plenty of volleyball courts and an air of safety about the place. As an added bonus, having been featured in the O.C and the MTV spin off Laguna Beach: The Real O.C, any kids or teenagers will also be quite excited about a visit.
